Vanessa Rappa
Vanessa is an interdisciplinary artist, exploring in and creating for the realms of poetry, music, theater, and movement as a poet, singer/song-writer, actor, and dancer. Vanessa is also a trash cat. Interpret that as you will. Their music, plays, and poetry have been presented by Undiscovered Countries, Judson Memorial Church, Pioneers Go East Collective, Nuyorican Poets Café, New York Theater Workshop open mic events, as well as Poetic Theater Productions as part of Love, Redefined, Together in Resilience, Poetic Lyricism, and more. In Fall 2021, they performed their original piece Scribbled Lines at Alchemical Studios as a recipient of the NY City Artist Corps Grants, presented by Poetic Theater Productions. --- Notable work in 2023: Completed a 2023 Artist Residency at BAM with Pioneers Go East Collective, a collective of radical queer performance and visual artists. During the residency, Pioneers Go East Collective cohort of performance and visual artists will explore My Name'sound, a new dance-theatre and media inspired by Queer icons and literary geniuses James Baldwin and Audrey Lorde. The Collective includes: Daniel Diaz, Joey Kipp, Gian Marco Riccardo Lo Forte, Agosto Machado, Bryan Baira, Bree Breeden, Vanessa Rappa, Mark Tambella, Philip Treviño, Richard Morales, Azmi Mert Erdem, Jo Wiegandt. Developed in 2021/22 at BRIC MEDIA ARTS (BRICLab Residency), and Center for Performance Research (AiR residency). A spiritual/sci-fi gestalt puppet musical about an Extraterrestrial named Maricama from Aricama, the land of practice, play and healing. They graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey with a double BA in Literature and Theater. As much as they enjoy the structure of traditional theater, Vanessa seeks to further explore their capacity and impact of performance.
